The Ohio Children's Budget Coalition hosted a media conference to discuss the Ohio House Budget Bill, GB 110. OLFKC co-chair, Tim Johnson, was a panelist and discussed the Child Lead Poisoning Exposure Prevention Budget Provisions. Toward a Lead-Free Ohio Virtual Town Hall

Join the Ohio Lead-Free Kids Coalition and learn about key investments in the Ohio budget to prevent and address child lead exposure, promising lead prevention strategies and opportunities for further action. Remarks by the distinguished panel of guest speakers, including a parent of a child poisoned by lead during a home renovation and a lead worker trained to use lead safe work practices, will be followed by moderated audience questions and connections to education materials and advocacy resources.

National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

Follow us on Twitter & Facebook for resources we created and compiled for the National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. These resources will also be available on our website under “OFLKC Materials”. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), also provided resources to encourage preventive actions during the week and beyond.

Groundwork Ohio will release their report, “Building the Way to a Healthier Future: Investigating a Path Forward to Ensure Ohio’s Youngest Children are Safe from Lead Paint Hazards in Child Care Settings.”  A panel discussion will include Gabriella Celeste, OLFKC's co-chair, Wyonette Cheairs (Lead Safe Cleveland), Ami Cole (Molina Healthcare), Katie Kelly (PRE4CLE) and LeeAnne Cornyn, Director of Governor DeWine's Children's Initiatives. The discussion will be facilitated by Lynanne Gutierrez, Assistant Director of Groundwork Ohio. Getting Ahead of Lead: Strategies for Protecting Children in Care

OLFKC Members Gabriella Celeste (Schubert Center Policy Director) and Jacqueline Fox (CEO West Ohio Community Action Partnership) will introduce child welfare and behavioral health workers, including foster parents and other providers, to the basics of childhood lead poisoning in order to better meet the needs of children and young people they serve. In addition to a general lead poisoning 101 overview, the presentation will address primary sources of lead exposure, identifying lead hazards, creating lead safe spaces for children and supportive services for children who are lead-exposed. The presenters are part of the Ohio Lead Free Kids Coalition and will present information about the coalition and highlights of the “Ohio Action Plan for Lead Free Children”.
