Getting Ahead of Lead: Strategies for Protecting Children in Care

As part of the Ohio Children’s Alliance Strengthening Connections conference, OLFKC Members Gabriella Celeste (Policy Director, Schubert Center for Child Studies) and Jacqueline Fox (CEO, West Ohio Community Action Partnership) will present a workshop to introduce child welfare and behavioral health workers, including foster parents and other providers, to the basics of childhood lead poisoning in order to better meet the needs of children and young people they serve. In addition to a general lead poisoning 101 overview, the presentation will address primary sources of lead exposure, identifying lead hazards, creating lead safe spaces for children and supportive services for children who are lead-exposed. Presenters are part of the Ohio Lead Free Kids Coalition and will present information about the coalition and highlights of the “Ohio Action Plan for Lead Free Children”.
